New! A Letter from our Class Scholarship Recipient

Dear Members of the Class of 1942,

I would like to extend my most sincere thanks to you for helping make my dream of attending Cornell come true. I am a local; I was born in the Ithaca hospital and I have spent my entire childhood in a small town just outside of Ithaca called Trumansburg. My father attended Cornell as an undergraduate and for as long as I can remember and many years before that our family has been the proud owner of two season tickets to Cornell Mens's Hockey. Those games always brought out dad's love for this school. He would tell me stories about his friends and his classes and the wonderful opportunities that Cornell allowed him.

Two years ago my father was diagnosed with cancer, and last year in early September it took him. Losing him was the single hardest experience of my life. But because of you my single mother was able to send me to Cornell as a freshman this year. It has proved to be the perfect institution for me. My father wasn't kidding when he spoke about how amazing it was here. It is perfect because I am able to make it home to see my mother whenever I need to, but also because of the intellectual challenge it has posed for me. I love all of my classes, and all of the people I am getting to know while I am here. But most of all, being here, at my father's alma mater makes me feel closer to him in a way. And that is a feeling I will always cherish, and always be grateful for.

Four Generations

Classmate Jim Kiernan proudly sent a picture of his granddaughter, Lisa, when she was captain of the Oxford Polo Team in her senior year. Jim was in London to see the annual match against Cambridge, and enjoyed the festivities, including Prince Harry. Unfortunately while Jim was in London, he broke his hip. He's fine now, after surgery, and almost ready to play golf again.
